RAISE THE FUTURE

For kids, teens, and young visionaries growing into the future.

About this shelf

You can't protect your kids from the world by keeping the world from them. What you can do is give them the vocabulary, the frameworks, and the sense of themselves as thinking people before someone else decides who they are.

Raise the Future is the kids and parenting shelf — but "kids" here doesn't mean soft. It means age-appropriate honesty. Progressive books for kids that don't treat childhood as a state of innocence to be preserved, but as a stage of real development where books about justice, difference, fairness, and creative agency aren't too heavy — they're exactly right. Children can hold complexity. What they can't hold is the feeling that adults are lying to them about how the world works.

This shelf includes anti-racist children's books, books for raising critical thinkers, books that introduce economic systems and historical injustice and the concept of solidarity through story rather than lecture. It also includes books that just model a creative life — that show kids what it looks like to make things, to have a voice, to trust your own perception of the world even when the adults around you seem certain you're wrong.

Books for raising critical thinkers aren't about producing tiny activists. They're about producing people who ask good questions, who can name what they're feeling, who don't automatically trust authority just because it's loud. That's the goal of this shelf. Start them here, and trust them with the rest.
